Philosophy

We believe that keeping students motivated and interested in the subject matter are the keys to their success. Also as important is that students must be well grounded in reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.

We respect and value each student's individuality and cultural background. Every student  is unique and will have his or her own learning style. Not every student will learn at the same pace.We will incorporate Progressivism and Essentialism in our classrooms. Also, we will be using Mastery Learning, Cooperative Learning and Project-Based Instruction as part of our teaching strategy.

We feel it's important for our students to understand, respect, and appreciate cultural diversity and individual differences.  Engaging our students in projects that will help them have a better understanding of how others think and feel is important. What students learn in the classroom  will be able to be applied to everyday life.

Our classrooms will be comfortable and  students will never feel intimidated by our teachers. If a student is having a problem,  they can discuss it with their  teacher. The teachers we choose for our school will be nurturing, have a positive energy, a passion, and love for teaching. Students learn best when they are having fun and are given positive feedback.

We will make each day stimulating and exciting, which will increase student participation. Each of our students will know that any goal is attainable.

Below are examples of the philosophies and teaching styles that we will incorporate in our classrooms.

We feel it's important to provide our students with opportunities to do work and service in real-world settings.

  • All 4th-5th graders will, participate in community service, that  will include cleanup at parks and beaches. These visits will takes place at Manatee Park, Lakes Park,Rutenberg Park and Fort Myers Beach.
  •  Grades 4th-5th will spend time at The Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary and Rehabilitation Center where the students will learn about the different animals that have been abused and rescued. They will also learn about how important and rewarding it is to volunteer.
  •  Grades K-5th will be going on field trips to Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium.
  • Lee County Sheriff Department will conduct classroom discussions on why drugs are bad and answer any questions students may have.
  • For students who are having difficulty with a subject, we will have one mentor assigned to each student. The mentors will come from higher grades and must have good grades.  The student that shows the most improvement will receive a Laptop computer and so will the mentor that was assigned to helping that student. We will monitor both the mentor and the student every 2 weeks. The teacher will have a meeting with the student and also another meeting with the mentor. This way we can check to make sure that both the mentor and student are working well as a team.

We will have a Jeopardy challenge for each grade the student that answers more questions correctly in each grade will receive a laptop computer. We will  also have Jeopardy competitions for example all 2nd grade classes will compete against each other. The students in the  2nd grade class that answers the most questions correctly will  all receive a Sony CD Player.

Reflection on activities in which students participate become a part of writing and discussion activities at school. All the community related activities would enhance each student's learning experience.

Our goal is to motivate students and keep their interest in the subject matter so they will do better in the class.  We want to challenge our students but still keep the class fun while they are learning.
